“So yeah, you guys can sleep in here.”
I rolled my eyes as Pauline shut the door to a guest bedroom in her basement, leaving Ramona and I alone. I was relieved that she hadn’t turned on the light, I felt more comfortable in the dark, being that this was the first time ever we had a completely private moment. After a week of flirtatious facebook conversations and hours of meaningless chat between then and the inevitable now, there was nothing left to talk about. Ramona quickly sat on one of the twin beds-“I’m so tired!” she lied, as I pulled off my sweatshirt and threw it on the opposite bed. “Well good thing there’s two beds-” I said jokingly to which she laughed harder than she should have. I layed down on the bed across from her, doing so in a way that demonstrated I was uncommitted to staying there for the night.
“Just come here.”
Ramona’s tone was different- possibly fed up from all the jokes and avoidance. I rolled over and got up slowly. I let out a nervous laugh when I got to the edge of her bed, touching her knee with the tips of my fingers- I could hear her smile breaking in the dark. She blurted out a “hey” to which I repeated- but quietly and followed by a laugh. I straddled her left leg which laid flat, one leg at a time. Holding on to her knee, I moved up just enough to kiss her neck. My fingers lightly placed on her knee became my hand sliding down the back of her thigh and she laid that leg down too, but I was quick to free my hand and trace my way up until I met the end of her shorts.
I let go.
My chest burned from excitement but I was struck by nerves. I sat
